Darrel Treece-Birch - Healing Touch - 2017
albumcover

“... 432 Hz Natural Tuning ...”

“Healing Touch” the new album of composer and multi instrumentalist Darrel Treece-Birch is a journey in positivity. “We all suffer from conditions that cannot be avoided; sickness, illness, fatigue or depression. Sometimes there can be an element that is psychosomatic because the mind is the command center that instructs the body. A positive mindset will most definitely effect your well being”. The album is recorded with a 432 Hz Natural Tuning of the instruments. According Richard Huisken, music tuned to 432 Hz is softer and brighter, giving greater clarity and is easier on the ears. Many people experience more meditative and relaxing states of body and mind when listening to such music. This is not a new idea, great musicians like Mozart and Verdi, based their music on the natural vibration of A=432 Hz. Spiritual or not, every music lover knows that beautiful music can go straight for the heart.

Darrel Treece-Birch - keyboards, guitars, bass, drums, percussion

progVisions readers will know the name Darrel Treece-Birch. The man who made name with bands like TEN and Nth Ascension. Last year we reviewed the Nth Ascension album “In Fine Initium” and the “No More Time” album of Darrel himself. In my review of the latter I wrote that the atmosphere of the music was on the mellow side of the symphonic rock / Neo Prog spectrum. And that lovers of New Age and Ambient music would probably also love the album. On that album you can find several guests musicians. However on the new album “Healing Touch” all the instruments are played by Darrel Treece-Birch himself. He is also responsible for the recording, the mix, the mastering and the production. This album is definitely interesting for the lovers of New Age, Ambient and Electronic music. It is an album full of relaxing (healing) music. In overall the basis of the music is keyboard oriented but you can find also some lovely guitar melodies on this fine album.

The album opens with the longest track (12:06) entitled “God's Prescription”. This is already the first highlight of the album. After a long, delicate and melodic synth solo the music develops into a fine composition which I would like to describe as a mix of Tangerine Dream and Michael Gettel ... it is a delicious ride on melodic sound waves. “From The Mouth” is more up tempo and guitar oriented with a long guitar solo on top of a bed of keyboard layers. In “Cast It Out” the keyboards and guitar solo's are more in balance. Halfway there is a delicate part with acoustic guitars and tasteful keys.

“ Re-Boot” is one of my favorites. You can find a beautiful synth melody here that is halfway followed by an electric guitar solo. The melodies are very beautiful in this track. “The Fruits Of The Spirit” opens with wind chimes and percussion and develops into a relaxed piece of music with some jazzy atmospheres. In “The Stand” the guitar is playing a more important role but in the end the beautiful keys are back. This flows into the brooding track “The Release” which has some Jean-Michel Jarre influences in the opening. On top of the keyboard layers you can find first a guitar part and later a synth part. And then it is time for the next highlight, a song called “The Expanse”. You can find lovely keyboard melodies and some nice guitar parts in this track. The music stays on the mellow side. No freaking or hectic parts on this album. It is all about the melodies and a relaxed atmosphere. In “No Fear Here” I hear some influences of another big artist in electronic music. Before the guitar solo the synth melodies and sound reminds me of Kitaro. After this nice track the album closes with the short “God's Medicine”. A song with a beautiful, delicate and soaring guitar melody. A worthy ending of a fine album.

“Healing Touch” is an album full of relaxed music. In overall the music is electronic and keyboard oriented but Darryl plays some great guitar tunes on this fine album. The music stays on the mellow side of the sound spectrum. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed. You can find wonderful melodies on this album. An interesting album for the lovers of New Age and electronic oriented music. My personal favorites are the long opener “God's Prescription”, the last track “God's Medicine” and the tracks “Re-Boot” and “The Expanse”. Wonderful album to enjoy after a hectic working day.
